Alexandra Stemp
Music Teacher
Alexandra was born in Blackpool, Lancashire and began playing the violin aged 6. Alexandra was a member of the Lancashire Student’s Symphony Orchestra which she went on to lead for 3 years, touring Europe and appearing as soloist on a number of occasions. Alexandra went on to study at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London with David Takeno and John Glickman, where she won the Bach Prize as well as a special commendation in her 1st year there in the Concerto competition.
On graduating from music conservatoire, Alexandra embarked on an extensive career in orchestral playing, performing with many of the UK’s leading professional orchestras including in principal positions. These include The Halle, BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Northern Chamber Orchestra, Lancashire Sinfonietta, Ulster Orchestra and Birmingham Royal Ballet.
Alexandra has performed many solo recitals over many years and has been involved with various chamber ensembles, more recently forming the string quartet Mercury Strings, of which she is the first violinist. She has regularly been involved in recording sessions for Realstrings, recording numerous tracks over many years for TV and radio.
Alexandra is married to Morris and together they have 5 children, all gifted musicians! The family have lived in Bacup for many years now they love being a part of the close community. Alexandra teaches violin and piano to students of all ages and abilities and is excited to be a part of this new musical venture with Dansworks!
